Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Tim Bushnell at 7:10 p.m.

Opening Prayer
Ricardo Avalos opened the meeting with a prayer.
Approve Minutes
The February 2011 Parish Pastoral Council minutes were approved.
Finance Update
Wayne Blazek reported on the following items:
§ The Finance Council met two times last month: April 6 and April 26
§ The second E-giving drive took place in April
§ A Finance communication report will be placed into an upcoming bulletin
§ The plate collection was $17,000 for Easter Sunday
§ The March plate collection was improved compared to one year ago
§ The Finance Council members are beginning budget planning for the 2011-12 fiscal year
Administrative Update and Activity Contribution Policy
John Simon reported on the following items:
§ Attendance patterns for 2011 Holy Week
§ The parish fundraising policy was reviewed; the policy will go in the bulletin and will go on the website.
o Ministry fundraising monies must be turned in to the parish so it goes on the books; this is Diocesan policy.
o The policy applies to all fundraisers, not just food sales
o A fundraiser form is in the office
Maintenance Update
Wayne Blazek reported on the following items:
§ Routine items needed maintenance
§ The biggest item is to improve the lighting on the West side; meeting with an electrician next week
§ The cover for the backflow preventer on the side of the San Juan Diego building
Stewardship Update
Laurie Bushnell reported that the Stewardship Council has been meeting twice a month; they are in the initial stages of planning. Different items about living a Christian stewardship life will be in the bulletin. Stewardship committee members will attend a Diocesan planning conference in August.
Ministry Fair Debrief
Jill Blazek reported that 26 different ministries had tables at February’s Ministry Fair in February. The weather was not very cooperative that weekend, so the Ministry Fair was held in Highberger Hall on Saturday, February 19 but moved to the courtyard on Sunday, February 20. The fair ended around noon on Sunday because it started to rain. Overall, there was a good turnout of both ministries and parishioners.
Holy Week Debrief
Ricardo Avalos spoke about the 2011 Holy Week missions. Missionaries were from Wisconsin, California, and Arizona. Activities included:
- Cleaning up at Mother Theresa of Calcutta’s Homeless Senior House
- Preparing lunches for daily laborers
- Collecting canned goods by going door-to-door
- Spreading the gospel door-to-door
- Washing the feet of the homeless
- Making crafts, cooking for, and writing cards of encouragement for Maggie’s Place moms
- Praying the Rosary with Bishop Olmsted at Planned Parenthood
- Praying and burying the homeless at the cemetery
- Visiting nursing homes
- Praying the Stations of the Cross in Phoenix
Ricardo said the support he received was amazing and many, many people opened their hearts.
Grace Marquez said her observation for being her first time working on the Mass schedules was that everyone worked as a team.
Wayne Blazek said that attendance at the Sunrise Mass increased, and that having attendees take chairs to the courtyard was a big help in setting up for the 8:30 a.m. Mass. In the future, we should have periodic checks in the bathroom to keep up with the demand.
Manuel Ortiz said that some of the parish missionaries that went door-to-door plan to go out again at the end of May.
Tim suggests that we inquire with the bank if they will let us use the parking lot for Palm Sunday next year.
Statue Dedication Update
Tim reported that the statue dedication will be held on May 21 at approximately 6:30 pm, after the Saturday evening Mass.
June 11 Planning Meeting
Tim reported there will be a planning update meeting with Father Moylan, Father Helio, Father Patrick, Parish Council members, Andy Romley, and John Simon on June 11, beginning with an 8:00 a.m. Mass until 1:00 p.m. Marina will be the scribe. A working lunch will be provided. It will be held to review our goals and inform the Diocese of our parish accomplishments.
Prioritize 2011-2012 Capital Budget
Mark Rauguth reported that the Finance Council will be finalizing the budget next month so that it can be submitted to the Diocese. The Finance Council will present parish project options to the Parish Council in August, and finalize them at the September Finance meeting. The full budget will be presented to Parish Council at the September meeting.
Suggestions on Parish Census
Tim reported that a parish census has never been done. John says that we are due and that one should probably be taken every five years. The census will probably be done via the website. John will be coordinating this with the Diocese.
Meetings in July/August
There will not be a Parish Council meeting in June or July, but possibly in August.
Open Discussion
Would it be possible to have Gregorian chant playing on Thursdays during adoration? Father Moylan will check and follow the Canons with the Diocese on adoration.
Grace Marquez asks if a parish Altar Society can be started so that there is one person in charge of the sacristy. Gloria says that would fall under the Liturgy Committee once that ministry is formed. Grace also received Office of Worship updates.
Will the daily Mass time change this summer? Father Moylan will think about it.
